April 2017 Finance Report

Привет!

Here be all my finances for April.

I spent the first seven days out of the month living in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, then was back in Ireland for 2.5 weeks, staying with my parents and giving a few talks in Waterford, Cork and Dublin, and I finished out in Moscow for four days/nights.

First time seeing one of these finance reports? Click here for a quick intro.

I’ve been tracking everything I earn and spend since January 2011, just a few weeks after quitting my day job. Every month since, I’ve published one of these finance reports.

Sharing this info publicly keeps me accountable and hopefully gives you some insight into how I earn a living online.

I was aiming to keep my expenses under $2.5k for the month so mission accomplished.

Biggest Regret?

Nothing major. I can’t tell though if that €68 on Facebook ads was money well spent. I probably would have had the same amount of people come to my talks without it.

Year To Date

Here’s how I’m doing so far in 2017 in terms of profit and loss:

January € 668 $ 720
February € 724 $ 763
March € 2,704 $ 2,881
April € 1,023 $ 1,114
Total € 1,625 $ 1,724

Where That Leaves Me

I had €7,266/$7,742 to my name at the end of March.

Taking into account all my April income and expenditure, and the most recent exchange rates – I have accounts in EUR, HKD and USD – my total bank and cash balances now work out to €8,254/$9,007. 36

Outlook For May

I’ll be in Russia until May 25th, mostly in Moscow, and Moscow is apparently the ninth-most expensive city in the world, so it’ll be tough to keep expenses down. Thankfully I paid for a good chunk of the month’s accommodation in April.

I’ll also have some excess business expenses coming up in May as I look to outsource a bit more.

But all things considered, I reckon I can still keep expenses under $2.5k, so let’s aim for that.

As for income, I have close to $1,500 due from freelance work this month, which gives me a good start. I go back and forth between thinking 3M1K has turned a corner and that it’s still bleeding money, so not sure what will happen with that.

Feck it. I’ll aim for at least $3k total income again in May.

  1. How have you found the Sleep Smarter book? I’ve listened to Shawn on a few podcasts and he had some pretty good sleep tips – although never managed to implement more than a few of them.

    Cheers,

  2. That was a very entertaining video. Great job! Loved the drop in graphics and videos, both the Hey big spender and Kitty reference. Fun stuff. You are getting very good at doing these and doing a little acting in them.
